Friends of the School
The Friends of the School are a group of parents, grandparents and carers whom meet regularly at school to discuss and organise fundraising ideas and events for the school. Funds raised are all for the benefit of the children and the school.
Each year we hold and Easter, Summer and Christmas coffee afternoon/fayre with stalls including teas and coffees, cake stall, tombola and raffles as well as others. Funds are also raised by events such as “Bags to School” where unwanted clothing etc can be donated in exchange for funds being received for the school.
We hold an annual “Easter Egg Hunt” where all children participate with their class. Eggs are hidden by the friends of the school and helpers around the school grounds and each child has an egg to find, there is one special egg to find per class with a larger prize for finding the “special egg” however all the children receive a smaller chocolate egg prize.
During the summer the friends of the school provide funds for all of the year 6 children leaving the school to receive a commemorative leaver’s gift in the form of a leaver’s book. The books are a great lasting memory for the children to take from school containing photographs of each child in the class and their own special memories of the school and future ambitions. There has been really positive feedback form both children and parents about these books.
The friends of the school also provide help to the school at events such as assisting on school photograph day and providing refreshments and supporting the book club at parent consultation afternoons. Support is also provided during sports week, providing juice on sports day and fruit and juice for each child following the annual fun run, all provided from the friends of the school funds.
The Halloween Party in school is organised by the friends of the school, with separate fancy dress parties for key stage 1 and key stage 2, the school hall is decorated and each party has party games and disco. Each child receives a party bag of sweets prepared by the friends and a drink of juice at the end of the party. The key stage 2 party also includes a tuck shop. Funds raised from the ticket sales assist in paying for the disco and party bags enjoyed by all children who attend.
During the Christmas celebrations in school the friends of the school help and support by providing refreshments and organising raffles at the various Christmas performances by the children. Fundraising at these events is great and raises substantial funds which are provided to school to pay for the food and discos for the children’s Christmas parties. Funds raised at the Christmas coffee afternoon/fayre are utilised for buying each child in the school a small Christmas gift in the form of a selection box which the children usually receive at their party.
Funds raised by the friends of the school are not only utilised for the children as above but have also been used for purchasing play equipment for the children in the school yard and “rainy day” boxes of games and activities for each classroom for breaktimes during the bad weather.
The friends of the school always welcome new members, for more information please contact the school office.
